FOUR LIONS Akbar (if you have a subversive sense of humor). Al Qaeda meets Mr. Bean in this delightfully funny look at a group of bumbling UK wannabe jihadis who talk the talk but walk with two left feet that they trip over constantly.
A hit at the Sundance Film Festival, the film became the spark that encouraged the quirky Austin-based art house chain Drafthouse to launch a distribution company in the vein of Shadow Distribution (Railroad Square Cinema, Waterville, Maine), Music Box Films (Music Box, Chicago), CFI Releasing (California Film Institute, San Rafael) and the semi-dormant Roxie Releasing (Roxie, San Francisco).
A group of Pakistani Brits and a wannabe Brihadi (white British muslim convert who wants to holy war) Three Stooge their way through terrorist training and attempted terrorist acts on Old Blighty with Marx Brothers execution by way of Ali G.
America might not be ready for terrorism comedy so this art house sleeper will keep the torch burning until Judd Apatow or Johnny Knoxville gets a pair of cojones and studio money to unleash some crude, rude and laughs with ‘tude. Kevin Smith hasn’t done a decent film as of late so he should be up to the challenge.
