The Summer Fancy Food Show and the Gay Pride Parade both celebrating victories this year in New York. Fancy Food inaugurated the first ever Specialty Food Week in New York and the LGBTQ community celebrated the historic Supreme Court ruling. 2,500 exhibitors showcased 180,000 products, thankfully not all of them food or I wouldn’t have been able to finish the show. There were some interesting new products this year that made it worth spending three days trudging through NYC’s infamous Javits Center.
Exhibitors and Attendees had praises and gripes that were repeated continually throughout the show that need to be mentioned. The size of the show has grown to the point that some feel the Javits may be too small to hold future shows if the number of exhibitors and attendees continue to grow (much like New York Comic Con). There is an even split on whether the show should continue as three days (not counting the pre-day special events this year, Good Food Mercantile and The Cheesemonger Invitational) or be extended to four. Closing day gestapo-like tactics by Javits staffers and rent-a-cops make it appear that the Westies are back in control there. The unprofessionalism shown by some show staffers was disappointing to a number of individuals. Slanderous innuendo by scurrilous schnorrers should be dismissed at hand before lawyers become involved.
