Once again New York gourmands can welcome in the new year by attending a competition at which there are no losers – the Annual Cassoulet Cook-off at Jimmy’s No. 43, which will hold its 9th iteration on Sunday, January 15th from 1:00-4:00pm. Co-hosted with the Chefs’ Consortium, which will help source local ingredients for the competing chefs, it will feature both professional and amateur chefs vying for prizes from sponsors Wüsthof and Anolon Cookware for people’s and judge’s choice awards.
As of the time of this writing competing chefs will include: Noah Sheetz (former NY Governor’s Mansion chef, and co-founder of Chefs’ Consortium), Grant Springer from Chefs’ Consortium, Michael Lapi (Chefs’ Consortium), Carolyn Wells (Chefs’ Consortium), Richio Biondo (5 Napkin Burger), Peter Hudson (formerly French Roast, Nizza), Jesse Jones, Tyler LaCorata (Still the One Distillery), Ryan Burk (Angry Orchard Ciders), Tahisha Solages (Chefs’ Consortium), Alana Szemer – who won the peoples’ choice award in 2016 – and host Jimmy’s No. 43. Tickets are available in advance for $20 and $25 at the door, which allows unlimited samples of all cassoulets (while they last), and a portion of the proceeds will benefit this year’s non-profit partner, the Brooklyn Rescue Mission.
