Another Italian muscle man gladiator movie of its’ time, the film is better than most in respect to storyline and acting. As usual, there are the epic battle scenes. The original copy source is a bit worn and grainy but a true fan will excuse this.
Our hero Darius (Roland Carey), leader of the 10th Legion, finds himself in a time when Rome’s outposts in Gaul are under siege by various barbarian tribes. Being rewarded for his successes on the battlefield, Darius and his men are on their way home for a much-needed rest.
During this trip, Darius gets caught up in unraveling the mystery of who is stealing the gold payroll destined for the army, as failure to pay the soldiers will lead to disharmony among the troops. The Consul to the Emperor instructs Darius to find out who is behind the thefts. Corruption and deceit all around him does not stop our hero from rescuing his beloved Rome from the plotting by the Governor of Gaul, the ringleader of the Barbarian uprisings and payroll theft.
